On the New Mexico driving test, safety questions are part of the 25-question exam. New Mexico requires a score of 72% (18 correct answers) to pass.
This category covers child restraint laws, seat belt requirements, safety equipment, crash avoidance, accident reporting, and emergency procedures that every driver should know.
Child restraint laws require children to be in appropriate car seats based on their age, weight, and height. Generally: rear-facing until at least age 2, forward-facing until age 4\u20135, booster seat until age 8\u201312, and then the adult seat belt when they fit properly.
Know how to respond in emergencies: tire blowouts (grip the wheel firmly, ease off the gas), brake failure (pump brakes, use emergency brake), and engine failure (coast to the shoulder). Understanding what to do at the scene of an accident - including reporting requirements and exchanging information - is also critical.
