Questions with explanations
Every question is researched, not recycled
Every question in DMV IQ is written from official state driver handbooks, CDL manuals, and motorcycle operator guides. We don't scrape other practice test sites or generate questions from templates.
Each question includes the correct answer, a detailed explanation of why it's correct, why the other options are wrong, a hint to help you reason through it, and a reference to the source material. No shortcuts, no gaps.
Because driving laws differ from state to state β speed limits, DUI penalties, cell phone laws, insurance requirements β we maintain a separate question set for each state. A California question about passing on the right is not the same as a Texas question about passing on the right.
What every question includes
- βCorrect answerβ Clearly marked with explanation
- π‘Hintβ A clue to help you reason through it
- πDetailed explanationβ Why the answer is right and others are wrong
- πSource referenceβ Tied to official handbook section
- π·οΈDifficulty ratingβ Easy, medium, or hard

Smarter study, not harder study
DMV IQ isn't a collection of random quizzes. The study system is built on three proven learning techniques:
- 1
Active Recall
You learn by answering questions, not re-reading. Testing yourself is proven to be more effective than passive study.
- 2
Spaced Repetition
Questions you get wrong come back at the right time β just before you'd forget them. Each review makes the memory stronger.
- 3
Smart Scoring
The IQ Readiness Scoreβ’ tracks 6 dimensions of readiness β not just right vs wrong, but difficulty, timing, coverage, and recovery.
How we ensure accuracy
Research
Each state's official driver handbook is reviewed for current 2026 laws, penalties, and procedures.
Write
Questions test understanding, not memorization. Wrong answers are plausible and educational.
Explain
Every question gets a detailed explanation, a hint, and a handbook reference. No placeholder content.
Update
Content is reviewed when laws change. Aggregate data flags questions that may be ambiguous or outdated.
