What this test covers
A separate written exam from General Knowledge, required in every state under 49 CFR 383.71. The pass mark is 80%, fixed federally by 49 CFR 383.135; most states do not publish how many questions it carries. Questions cover nine hazard classes, placarding requirements, shipping papers, loading and unloading procedures, emergency response, and the Hazardous Materials Table. You should know when placards are required, how to use the Emergency Response Guidebook, and the specific rules for transporting different classes of hazardous materials.
