California administers the test exclusively on touchscreen computer kiosks at DMV offices. There's no paper option and no online testing available. You get three attempts to pass per application. If you're under 18, you must wait 7 days between retakes. Adults can try again the next business day. If you use all three attempts, you'll need to start over with a new application and fee.
